ASRock B650 Steel Legend WiFi Motherboard Review

The Box and Packaging

Inside the box, you’ll find the usual user’s manual, AM5 CPU installation guide, a Steel Legend postcard, a pair of SATA cables, 3 sets of M.2 screws, a pair of velcro straps for cable management, and a set of WiFi 6e antennas.

 

The ASRock B650 Steel Legend Wifi Motherboard

One of the first thing that strikes you is the all-white/silver design of the motheroard. It’s perfect for any white-themed PC builds.

There’s one silver heatsink that cover the VRM/Mosfets on the top of the motherboard, and another large heatsink that covers the I/O hood. This also helps cool the VRM/Mosfets on the left side of the motherboard.

 

There are also several more heatsinks which can be found on the chipeset, the Blazing M.2 (PCIE Gen5) SSD slot, and a longer heatsink that covers the 2 Hyper M.2 (PCIE Gen4) SSD slot. On the back of the motherboard, you’ll see a large Steel Legend logo against a grey background.

 

A Closer Look

To power the board, there are 2 x 8-pin PCIE power connectors on the top left-hand corner of the board. These needs to be connected, and will give the board extra stability during overclocking etc.

Expansion slots inlcude 1 x PCIe 5.0 x16 slot, 1 x PCIe 3.0 x16 slot, and 1 x PCIe 4.0 x1 slot.The PCIE 5.0 x16 slot come with surface mount technology, which gives it better physical strength, as well as a more stable memory signal.

For RGB lovers, there’s 2 x 3-pin ARGB (5V) headers located on the top right side of the motherboard, and 1 x 3-pin ARGB (5V) header, as well as1 x 4-pin RGB (12V) near the bottom left side of the board.

There’s plenty of USB connectivity. You get a total of 19 USB ports, which includes 1 x 3.2 Gen2x2 Type-C, 1 x USB 3.2 Gen1 Type-C, 1 x USB 3.2 Gen2 Type-A (Rear), 8 x USB 3.2 Gen1 Type-A (4 Rear, 4 Front) and 8 x USB 2.0 (4 Rear, 4 Front).

ASRock’s Nahimic Audio is handled by the Realtek ALC4082 7.1 CH HD Audio Codec, and provides engaging listening experience with vibrant and rich sounds.

For connectivity, you get the Dragon 2.5Gb/s LAN, as well as WiFi 6E 802.11ax + Bluetooth 5.0. And for storage options, you get 4 x SATA3 ports, 1 x Blazing M.2 (PCIe Gen5x4) slot, and 2 x Hyper M.2 (PCIe Gen4x4) slots.

The rear I/O panel includes 1 x HDMI 2.1 port, 1 x DisplayPort 1.4, WiFi 6e antenna connectors, BIOS flashback button, 4 x USB 2.0, 4 x USB 3.2 Gen1, 1 x USB 3.2 Gen2 Type-A, 1 x USB 3.2 Gen2x2 Type-C , 2.5G LAN, line-in, microphone and SPDIF.
