ASRock B850 Steel Legend WiFi Motherboard Review

Performance – Part 2

3D performance and games

3D tests were performed on the RTX4080 graphics card from Colorful, which is still one of the fastest options on the current market.

All the UL benchmarks perform great. Below are our results, which are close to the error margin compared to other reviewed B850, X870, and X870E motherboards.

The PCIe bandwidth is as high as expected for the PCIe 4.0 x16 graphics card. The Steel Nomad benchmark performs pretty well, even higher than on other motherboards.

UL benchmarks are mainly known for the 3DMark series, which has been a market standard for years. The new tests provide support for the latest graphics card technologies. However, they’re not games; users often wish to know the results of their favorite titles. Since covering all games is impossible, some selected at 1440p at ultra settings are below.

FarCry 6, Assassin’s Creed: Mirage, and Cyberpunk 2077 give us similar FPS to other motherboards with new AMD chipsets. The differences are marginal.

Networking

The B850 Steel Legend has a Realtek 2.5Gbps Intel LAN and WiFi 7. Both options are perfect for even more demanding users. During various tests, we had no problems with the connection quality on both connection types.

Our result for the TamoSoft benchmark is about 2375Mpbs average, which is slightly less than the maximum network controller bandwidth, but it’s never close, so we see it as a very good result.

Overclocking

The Steel Legend offers the same overclocking potential with our Ryzen 9 7950X processor as most other ASRock motherboards with the latest AMD chipsets. The CPU could reach 5400MHz on all cores, which is an above-average result. This confirms that the tested motherboard has a good power design and keeps stability under higher-than-standard loads.

Even though we don’t need overclocking, the ASRock B850 Steel Legend allows us to improve the performance. The BIOS is not much different than that of the most expensive motherboards and has a full range of settings that may help us stabilize a higher processor or RAM frequency.
