Verdict and Conclusion
A few weeks ago, we reviewed several B850 motherboards from ASRock, including the B850 Steel Legend WiFi Motherboard (ATX) and Phantom Gaming B850M Riptide WiFi Motherboard (micro ATX). Both motherboards offered decent performance at an affordable price. We now turn our attention to the third B850 motherboard from ASRock – the Phantom Gamign B850 Riptide WiFi (ATX).
This motherboard is mainly targeted at the mainstream market, for users who’s after an affordable next-gen AMD motherboard for light gaming and content creation. It may lack some of the enthusiast features found on the more expensive X870/X870E motherboards, but based on its price, you do get more than enough features for most user’s needs.
During our tests, we used our usual test rig which is comprised of a Ryzen 9 9950X processor, 32GB of DDR5-7600 ram and a GeForce RTX 4080 Super. We managed to get decent scores in all of our benchmarks, including a Cinebench 2024 score of 2,262 points for multi core, and 130 points for single core. For PCMark 10, we got a decent score of 10,866, and a score of 17,810 for PassMark 11.
For Procyon Video Editing Benchmark, we a got score of 12,056 and a score of 222 for the AI Computer Vision Benchmark. For 3DMark Steel Nomad and Speedway, we got very good scores of 6,785 and 7,546 respectively. And finally, for Port Royal and Timespy, we got decent scores of 18,767 and 25,983 respectively.
Just like ASRock’s other mainstream motherboards, it offers good stability thanks to the 14+2+1 Power Phase design, 20K capacitors, 8-Layer PCB, and 80A Dr.MOS for VCore+SOC. The board also comes with 4 x DDR5 DIMM slots, supporting both Intel XMP and AMD’s EXPO memory modules with speeds of up to DDR5-8000+.
You only get 2 expansion slots on the motherboard. These include 1 PCIe 4.0 x16 and 1 x PCIe 5.0 x16 with a Lite Release Design, featuring a spring-loaded latch for easy installation and removal of graphics cards.
For storage, you get a total of 4 SATA ports, 3 x Hyper M.2 (PCIe Gen4x4) slots, and 1 x Blazing M.2 (PCIe Gen5x4) featuring their Toolless Multi-Layer M.2 Heatsink design, which allows users to mount their M.2 SSDs with ease. The M.2 slot also come with a bottom heatsink for more effective heat dissipation.
As far connectivity is concerned, you get total of 20 x USB ports, a Killer E3100 2.5G LAN, Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth. Other features include Realtek 7.1 HD Nahimic Audio, Lightning gaming ports, BIOS Flashback button, SignalRGB and ASRock’s Polychrome RGB.
