ASRock X299 Taichi Motherboard Review

Box and Packaging

The box and packaging looks nice and sleek. Inside the box, you get the usual quick installation guide, instruction manual and drivers on DVD disc. You’ll also find 2 x SATA cables, some M.2 screws, a Tri-SLI and Dual-SLI bridge connectors.

ASRock X299 Taichi Motherboard

The motherboard is a full size ATX and comes in a black/grey finish. Notice the LGA 2066 socket. It’s identical to the LGA 2011-v3, which means you should be able to mount exisiting 2011-v3 coolers if you have one.

The Taichi themed heatsink has RGB LEDs which cycle different colors when you power up the system, and there’s also a hood for the  I/O panel, which is a nice touch.

The motherboard features a 8-layer PCB, 2oz copper and high-quality solid caps. The 13 phase power design allows extra stability for the motherboard, which is extremely useful during overclocking.

A Closer Look

On closer look, you can see the “steel slots” for the PCIE, and there’s 3 x Ultra M.2 connectors for your SSDs. The diagnostic LED is an added bonus for overclockers.

For storage, you get 10 x SATA ports, which is more than you’ll ever need. There’s a cover which hides the audio chip featuring Purity Sound 4.

On the I/O panel, you can see 2 x USB 2.0, PS/2 mouse and keyboard combo, 2 wifi antenna mounts, BIOS Flackback button, a clear CMOS switch, dual Gigabit LAN, 4 x USB 3.0, 2 x USB 3.1 (A and C-type), and finally an array of audio connectors.
