ASRock Z490 Phantom Gaming-ITX/TB3 Motherboard Review

Performance – part 1

All tests were performed on the ASRock Z490 Phantom Gaming-ITX/TB3 motherboard, i9 10900K processor, MSI GTX1660Ti graphics card, 64GB HyperX Fury DDR4-3200 CL16 memory kit and Samsung 970 EVO SSD on which was installed Windows 10 Pro x64 OS with the latest updates. In tests were also used additional memory kits and storage devices. Everything else will be mentioned during the tests.

Memory performance

The motherboard has no problem handling memory up to DDR4-4800, which is a little improvement comparing to the PG Velocita. Both motherboards officially support DDR4-4666+. Most users won’t use higher frequency memory kits, but it’s good to know that all those who wish to install any higher memory kit can make it without issues. Below is our result at DDR4-4800 using Ballistix Elite based on Micron E-die.

The motherboard was also tested with Samsung 8GB and Micron 16GB and 32GB modules from Crucial, G.Skill, and HyperX. There were no issues during tests, and every memory kit could run at XMP settings.

Processor performance and mixed load tests

The performance of our processor is excellent. No problems were reaching 5.3GHz turbo clock, but of course, when we load all cores, then the frequency will be limited to 4.9GHz.

No problems with compression and decompression tests under high load and used nearly full memory capacity.

There are also no problems with rendering. Results are about as high as that on the PG Velocita motherboard.

As we can see in the Cinebench (above) and the PCMark benchmark series (below), the performance of our test platform is excellent. Results are again similar to those made on the PG Velocita and higher than some competitive motherboards previously tested on FunkyKit.

PCMark 8 and PCMark 10

PCMark results are essential as they’re showing how all components work with each other in a mixed load environment. It can be translated into regular daily work, so what we all do and expect good results. The Phantom Gaming ITX/TB3 performs exceptionally in this benchmark providing high scores in each category.
