Verdict and Conclusion
Well what can I say? Asus has done it yet again. In terms of features, performance and overclocking ability … Asus ROG Maximus X Hero just rocks! It came out on top in all of our benchmark tests, easily beating other Z370 motherboards. And we all agree, it’s currently the best Z370 motherboard we’ve tested to date!
What I really like about the Asus ROG Maximus X Hero are the extra features. It supports 2-way SLI or 3-way Crossfire multi-GPU configuration, as well as XMP memory profiles and one-click easy overclocking. And you’ll never have to worry about connectivity. The back panel I/O features reset and clear CMOS, 1 x DisplayPort, 1 x HDMI, Keybot and BIOS USB port, 4 x USB 3.0, 2 x USB 3.1 (Type-A and C), Gigabit LAN port, SPDIF optical out, and an array of HD audio connectors.
Other notable mentions include the Aura Sync and the SupremeFX HD audio are pretty standard with all of Asus’s high-end ROG motherboards. For storage, you get dual M.2 connectors with one included ROG M.2 Heatsink, and 6 x SATA3 ports and of course support for Intel Optane memory.
Overclockers will love this motherboard. There are onboard diagnostic LEDs, Mem-OK, ClrCMOS, Power-on and reset buttons. I was able to overclock the Intel Core i7-8700K from the default speed of 3.7GHz to a nice 5.0GHz. To achieve this, we increased the multiplier to x50 and upped the voltage to 1.35v. Word of advice… I highly recommend you invest in a very powerful AIO cooler with a large radiator or even a custom water loop!
As far as price is concerned, the Asus ROG Maximus X Hero (Z370) motherboard retails for around USD $280, which I think is correctly priced considering the features and performance you’ll get. It’s currently the best Z370 motherboard we’ve tested to date!

What a great motherboard. This will be my next purchase!
Sounds like it eh.
Hope you have better luck than I, have been fighting ghost in the machine for a few days now…hope it clears up…I’m using the 8700k cpu and 32gb ram.
New stuff, odds are you’ll be a beta for a bit.
Upside, once everything works, you’ll have a board that probably lasts as long as my old one (14 years) and was still actually useful in the later years for gaming…
