Verdict and Conclusion
I’ve seen some great motherboards in my time, and this my friend is one of them. BUT, it does come with a heavy price! More about that later. First, let me give you my thoughts on the Asus ROG Rampage VI Extreme (X299) Motherboard.
Performance. The Asus ROG Rampage VI Extreme performs extremely well. I got some excellent scores from our benchmark tests. It came out on top of the list everytime, beating both the ASRock X299 Taichi and the EVGA X299 Micro.
Features. This motherboard is insanely crammed packed with great features. It’s way too long to list, but just to mention a few that stood out. You get an onboard 10GB LAN port, DIMM.2 card for M.2 SSDs, fan controller card, 2-way, 3-way and 4-way SLI bridges, as well as LiveDash OLED display on the I/O hood for diagnostic and motherboard status. There’s also SupremeFX audio, Aura Sync, Extreme Engine Digi+ and more. It’s definitely the most feature-packed motherboard I’ve come across to date.
Overclocking. One of the main selling points of the Asus ROG Rampage VI Extreme is that it’s designed for overclocking. If you’re an overclocker, then you’ll love this motherboard. Just a simple voltage increase (1.25v) and changing the multiplier to x51, I was able to overclock my humble Core i5-7640X from a default 4.0GHz to a whopping 5.1GHz with rock solid stability.
The ROG UEFI BIOS has tons of options to tweak, tune and overclock your motherboard, CPU and memory until your heart’s content.
All-in-all, the Asus ROG Rampage VI Extreme is one of the best motherboards I’ve tested this year, and I don’t think any other X299 motherboard out there can come even close to it. However, all this comes with a heavy price … it’s currently selling on Newegg for USD $650.00. That’s one investment you’ll have to think twice.
Alternatively, you can also check out the Asus ROG Rampage VI Apex (X299) for $429.00.
Oh, I forgot … to take advantage of all the benefits of this motherboard, you’ll also need to get yourself a beefier and more expensive processor … such as the Intel Core i7-7820X or possibly a Core i9-7900X and higher.
Pros:
- Excellent performance
- Great overclocking ability
- Absolutely crammed packed with great features and extras
- The ultimate enthusiast motherboard
Cons:
- Expensive
Final thoughts:
Well, what can I say? If you’re an extreme enthusiast with cash to burn, and you want the best performing X299 motherboard on the market … then this is THE motherboard to go for. You won’t be disappointed with the Asus ROG Rampage VI Extreme, although your bank account might. LOL!
