Conclusion
The BIOSTAR A68N-5000 is a great little motherboard which you can use for every day, less demanding activities. It is true that it is not a gaming platform and you will not expect to have a high performance workstation but for most home users it is still fast enough to use for daily applications, watch movies or even listen to music. Video chat and other tests based on web performance are not too difficult for this Biostar motherboard.
One thing which seems really standard but counts is the passive APU cooling. The standard socketed APU from the Kabini family has a standard cooler with a small fan and small heatsink. The Biostar A68N-5000 does not need any fan as it is using quite a large heatsink so there are no moving parts and nothing to break or cause noise. The temperatures of the A4-5000 were not high so even in the low airflow chassis it should stay fully stable and will not overheat.
One of the strongest points of BIOSTAR A68N-5000 is the price. In the USA we can find it for about $69, while in Europe price is about €60. It is really hard to find any other platform in this price range which offers similar or better performance and features.
Pros:
- Low price
- Good performance comparing to other similar platforms
- Passive cooling
- BIO-Remote2
Cons:
- None worth to mention
Final words:
I can easily recommend the BIOSTAR A68N-5000 to all of the less demanding users who are looking for a cheap HTPC motherboard or just simply wish to run basic applications on their computer while maintaining quite good performance. It is also a great option for all who require silence as it is not using any fan and is not generating a lot of heat. The best feature is probably the price to performance factor and we just cannot find many similar options on the market. The BIOSTAR A68N-5000 receives the Funky Kit Value Award.
