Colorful CVN B460M Gaming Pro V20 Motherboard Review

Performance – part 1

All tests were performed on the Colorful CVN B460M Pro Gaming motherboard, i9 10900K processor, XFX RX5600 XT THICC Ultra III graphics card, 64GB HyperX Fury DDR4-3200 CL16 memory kit and Silicon Power US70 1TB PCIe 4.0 x4 SSD on which was installed Windows 10 Pro x64 OS with the latest updates. In tests were also used additional memory kits and storage devices. Everything else will be mentioned during the tests.

Memory performance

The motherboard offers memory frequency up to 1600MHz, so DDR4-3200. At this clock, we can set up to 128GB RAM while on the screenshot below, we can see two 32GB memory modules from HyperX Fury series. The performance, even though it could be better, is exactly where we were expecting it to be.

The motherboard was also tested with Hynix, Micron, and Samsung 8GB and 16GB memory modules from Crucial, G.Skill, and HyperX. There were no issues during tests, but of course, higher frequency memory kits were limited by the motherboard.

Processor performance and mixed load tests

The processor performed well in our benchmarks, but because of chipset limitations, it couldn’t run at its maximum turbo clock of 5.3GHz. On all cores, it could still make 4.9GHz as on Z490 motherboards, so it’s good enough.

No problems with compression and decompression tests under high load and used nearly full memory capacity.

In the Cinebench series, we can see slightly lower scores because of the mentioned lower maximum turbo clock when only some cores are in use. Even though this benchmark uses all cores, then somehow, the score is still affected.

PCMark 8 and PCMark 10

PCMark results are closer to what we can see on the motherboards with a higher chipset. The performance is again slightly lower than on the Z490 motherboards, but the price difference works well for the B460M Pro Gaming as during daily work, barely anyone could tell which one is faster.

PCMark results are essential as they’re showing how all components work with each other in a mixed load environment. It can be translated into regular daily work, so what we all do and expect good results. The B460M Pro Gaming performs well, and that’s what we are expecting.
