Closer Look
Colorful CVN B760M Frozen WiFi D5 arrived in a retail package which well described in a similar way as most gaming series motherboards. On the back, we have a picture of the motherboard and listed specifications and key features. The box design is similar to that of the previously reviewed CVN motherboards.
We will find a well-protected motherboard, user’s manual, drivers and software DVD, SATA data cables, and WiFi antennas inside the box. The I/O shield is pre-installed, which is already a standard in gaming motherboards. We can also see that WiFi antennas are larger and white. It’s a nice touch to the already white design of the motherboard.
The motherboard looks great. I like it even more than the Z690M Frozen which we reviewed some months ago. There are little differences that make every new generation look slightly better, even though the Frozen series has been with us for some years.
The motherboard doesn’t have any fans or anything else that could make noise. It’s, of course, an advantage.
On the motherboard are three M.2 sockets, which is more than enough for most users. All M.2 sockets are PCIe 4.0 x4, but not even one is specified for an M.2 SATA SSD. This standard is already less popular due to its lower performance and similar prices to a much faster M.2 PCIe SSD.
Even though there are no PCIe 5.0 M.2 sockets, then we have one full-speed PCIe 5.0 x16 slot. It’s good news for all who are planning to use this less expensive motherboard right now but still count on upgrades in the future.
The PCIe x16 slot is strengthened, so we can be sure it won’t be damaged by heavy graphics cards. With the current graphics cards, it runs at full PCIe 4.0 x16 bandwidth. On the test graphics card, we could reach about 26GB/s, so about the same as motherboards with the Z790 chipset.
The motherboard is equipped with Realtek 2.5Gbps LAN and Intel 6 WiFi/Bluetooth. Both are optimal for a modern PC and are popular in more expensive series motherboards.
With the latest BIOS, the motherboard supports up to 196GB RAM in 48GB modules. If we use lower capacity modules, then we can count on at least DDR5-6400, which is confirmed to work with memory kits that we used for tests and locked 13th gen processors, which are specified for lower maximum RAM frequencies. In short, even if you have 12th gen or locked 13th gen CPU, then the CVN B760M Frozen will run with RAM at DDR5-6400, which isn’t a bad result.
The motherboard is also equipped with a single HDMI 2.0 and single DP 1.2 output. This is also the most popular and provides all the available display resolutions for integrated Intel graphics.
There are more detailed specifications on the next page, so let’s move there to check additional components that were not described yet.
