Verdict and Conclusion
All said and done, the Gigabyte Z790 Aorus Elite X WiFi 7 is a feature-rich and attractive gaming motherboard that’s surprisingly affordable. It includes a Digital Twin 16+1+2 phases VRM solution with 8mm heatpipe, giving you decent power efficiency and stability. It’s also compatible with the latest Intel 14th Gen processor and supports memory speeds of up to DDR5-8266.
The motherboard also feature an 8-Layer server-grade PCB, 2x copper Enhancement, Back Drilling Technology, Isolated Memory Routing, and large heatsinks for cooling thanks to their VRM Thermal Armor Advanced, M.2 Thermal Guard L and M.2 Thermal Guard Ext.
During our tests, we managed to get some pretty decent scores in all of our benchmarks. We got a Cinebench R23 scores of 36,884 (multi core) and 2,046 (single core). For PCMark 10, we got a score of 10,347, and a score of 12,368 for PassMark 10.
For UL’s latest Procyon Photo Editing Benchmark, we got a score of 10,490 and 57,142 for the video editing suite. For 3DMark Speedway and Port Royal, we got a solid score of 7,513 and 18,501 respectively. And finally, for Timespy and Firestrike, we got a decent score of 28,122 and 45,429 respectively.
When i said this motherboard was feature-rich, I meant it … and here’s some of the features I found attractive. I love the re-inforced PCIE 5.0 x16 slot featuring PCIE UD Slot X, which provides strength and enchanced protection for your graphics card.
For storage, it comes 6 x SATA ports and 4 x PCIE Gen4x4 M.2 slots for SSDs, which I think is more than enough. However, I wished they could have at least included one PCIE Gen5x4 M.2 slot. That said, the four onboard M.2 slots feature Gigabyte’s EZ latch click and M.2 EZ Latch plus, which allows users to mount your M.2 SSDs with ease. These M.2 slots are covered by their impressive-looking M.2 Thermal Guard L and Thermal Guard Ext.with full cover heat shield.
Connectvity on the back I/O pannel includes, 4 x USB 2.0 ports, connectors for the WiFi 7 antenna, 2 x USB 3.2 Gen2 ports (red), 1 x HDMI port, 1 x DisplayPort, 3 x USB 3.2 Gen1 ports (blue), 1 x USB 3.2 Gen 2×2 (20GB/s Type-C), 1 x optical S/PDIF Out connector, Line-out and Mic-in.
Other features include the WiFi7 with ultra high-gain antenna plus magnetic base, an Intel 2.5GbE LAN, support for Bluetooth 5.3, Thunderbolt headers, you also get the onboard reset, clear CMOS and Q-Flash BIOS buttons, and the Realtek ALC1220-VB CODEC for 7.1 HD audio with WIMA Caps for High-Fidelity studio quality audio.
