Gigabyte X870 AORUS ELITE WiFi7 Motherboard Review

Verdict and Conclusion

As you know in the coming months, there will be a flurry of new AMD motherboard featuring the latest X870 and X870E chipsets. These new motherboards are meant to take advantage of new technologies, such as Zen 5 and 4nm achitecture as found on AMD’s latest Ryzen 9000 series of processors. It will be an exciting period for gamers, enthusiasts and content creators.

The Gigabyte X870 AORUS ELITE WiFi7 is one of the first X870 motherboards we’ve tested at Funky Kit, and I have to say I’m extremely impressed with the overall performance.

During our tests, we managed to get excellent decent scores in all of our benchmarks. For Cinebench 2024, it scored an impressive 2,283 points for multi core, and 138 points for single core. For PCMark 10, we got a score of 10,548, and a score of 17,808 for PassMark 11.

For UL’s latest Procyon Video Editing Benchmark, we got very good score of 11,986 and a score of 241 for the AI Computer Vision Benchmark. For 3DMark Steel Nomad and Speedway, we got excellent scores of 6,649 and 7,577 respectively. And finally, for Port Royal and Timespy, we got a very score of 18,602 and 24,585 respectively.

Now let’s talk about some of its impressive list of features. It uses a 6-Layer, 2X Copper PCB and Gigabyte’s digital twin 16+2+2 phases VRM solution, for superb stability and reliability. The motherboard also feature Shielded and Daisy-Chained Memory Routing, and large heatsinks for cooling thanks to their VRM Thermal Armor Advanced, M.2 Thermal Guard L and M.2 Thermal Guard Ext.

There is one thing which I was very impressive with … and that’s the native support for XMP and EXPO memory (AMD Extended Profiles for Overclocking – AMD’s answer to XMP). Some years ago, users were experiencing  memory compatibility issues on certain AMD platforms, including the X670/X670E. But now it seems that AMD have fixed these issues. I was able to run perfectly XMP memory at DDR5-8000 speeds with no issues at all. Great job!

If you need for extra storage capacity, there’s plenty. You get 4 x SATA ports, 1 x PCIE Gen4 M.2 slot, and 3 x PCIE Gen5 M.2 slots for SSDs, which I think is plenty for most users. These M.2 slots are covered by their large M.2 Thermal Guard L and Thermal Guard Ext.with  full cover heat shield. I especially like Gigabyte’s EZ Latch feature as this allows users to mount your M.2 SSDs with ease.

Additionally, you also get the PCIe EZ-Latch Plus, which means you’ll be able to easily remove their graphics card with a push of a button. Love it!

And what about connectivity? Well, there’s plenty. On the back I/O panel, you’ll find a Q-Flash Plus button, WiFi EZ-Plug for the WiFi 7 antennas, 4 x USB 2.0 ports, 4 x USB 3.2 Gen1 ports, 2 x USB 3.2 Gen2 ports, 2 x USB4 ports, 2.5GB LAN, 1 x optical S/PDIF Out connector, Line-out and Mic-in.

Other features include the 8 x 4-pin headers for cooling fans,  WiFi 7 with ultra high-gain antenna plus magnetic base, an Realtek 2.5GbE LAN, support for Bluetooth 5.4, diagnostic LEDs, you also get the onboard reset, clear CMOS and the Realtek CODEC for 7.1 HD audio.

I wasn’t given a MSRP for the Gigabyte X870 AORUS ELITE WiFi 7, but expect to pay around USD $300~

Final Words:

If you’re planning to upgrade to an AMD Ryzen 9000 series processor, and you need a feature-rich motherboard that offers decent performance, then take a look at the Gigabyte X870 AORUS ELITE WiFi 7. It’s got eveything you need and more, at a price that you can’t ignore.
