Today, we’ll be taking a look at the Gigabyte Z790 AORUS Elite AX ICE motherboard. It uses Intel’s Z790 chipset and features a 6-layer, 2X Copper PCB with Twin 16+1+2 Power Phase Digital VRM Solution, and Thermal Armour Advanced cooling.
It’s suitable for all Intel Core processors on the LGA 1700 socket, including the 12th Gen, 13th Gen, and the latest 14th Gen processors with the latest BIOS update. It supports Intel’s XMP 3.0 standard with memory speeds of up to DDR5-7600.
Expansion includes 1 x PCIE 5.0 x16 UD slot for your graphics card, 1 x PCIE 4.0 x 16 slot and 1 x PCIE 3.0 x 16 slot. For storage, it comes with 4 x PCIE Gen4 M.2 Slots and 6 SATA ports for SSDs, which is more than plenty for most users.
For connectivity, it features Realtek’s 2.5GbE LAN and WiFi 6E, and comes with Gigabyte’s ultra-high gain antenna – perfect for low latency gaming. The onboard Gigayte’s AMP-UP audio uses WIMA caps and povides a high-quality 7.1 HD audio experience.
There’s also a clear CMOS and reset switch located on the bottom right side of the board. and a Q-flash button on the bottom for easy update of the BIOS.
On the back, there are 4 x USB2.0 ports, 2 x USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A ports, 3 x USB 3.2 Gen 1 ports and 1 x super fast USB 3.2 Gen 2×2 Type-C port.
There’s also a HDMI port, a Displayport, 2.5GbE LAN port, and an array of audio connectors for lineout, mic-in and SPDIF.

The Z790 chipset allows a total 20 usable PCIE 4.0 lanes, with upto a maximum memory capacity of 128GB. It’s also capable of up to 10 x USB 3.2 Gen1 5Gbps, 10 x USB 3.2 Gen2 10Gbps and up to 5 x USB 3.2 Gen2x2 20Gbps.
