Gigabyte Z790 AORUS Elite AX ICE Motherboard Review

Verdict and Conclusion

All-white themed PCs seems to be trending right now, and manuafcturers are taking advantage of this trend by charging a small premium on white versions of cases, coolers, fans, memory and motherboards.

However, having said that … building an all-white PC using a white motherboard needn’t be expensive. Take for example, the Z790 Aorus Elite AX ICE motherbaord from Gigabyte. It’s a feature-rich and attractive gaming motherboard that’s surprisingly affordable costing around USD $200-$230. It’s compatible with the latest Intel 14th Gen processor with the latest BIOS update, and supports memory speeds of up to DDR5-7600.

It also comes a Digital Twin 16+1+2 phases VRM solution with large heatsinks giving you good power efficiency and stability. The motherboard also feature an 6-Layer, 2x copper PCB, Shielded Memory Routing, and large heatsinks for cooling thanks to their VRM Thermal Armor Advanced, M.2 Thermal Guard L and M.2 Thermal Guard Ext.

During our tests, we managed to get some pretty decent scores in all of our benchmarks. We got a Cinebench R23 scores of 34,756 (multi core) and 2,118 (single core). For PCMark 10, we got a score of 10,078, and a score of 17,079 for PassMark 11.

For UL’s latest Procyon Video Editing Benchmark, we got a score of 57,809 and a score of 194 for the AI Computer Vision Benchmark. For 3DMark Nomad Steel and Speedway, we got excellent scores of 6,738 and 7,550 respectively. And finally, for Port Royal and Timespy, we got a decent score of18,656 and 28,103 respectively.

For storage, you get 6 x SATA ports and 4 x PCIE Gen4x4 M.2 slots for SSDs, which I think is more than enough for most users. But since the Z790 Aorus Elite AX ICE isn’t a high-end enthusiast motherboard, there’s no PCIE Gen5x4 M.2 slot, which is understandable. That said, the four onboard M.2 slots feature Gigabyte’s EZ latch and allows users to mount your M.2 SSDs with ease. These M.2 slots are covered by their large M.2 Thermal Guard L and Thermal Guard Ext.with  full cover heat shield.

As far as connectvity is concerned, there’s plenty. On the back I/O pannel, you’ll find 4 x USB 2.0 ports, connectors for the WiFi 6E antenna, 2 x USB 3.2 Gen2 ports (red), 1 x HDMI port, 1 x DisplayPort, 3 x USB 3.2 Gen1 ports (blue), 1 x USB 3.2 Gen 2×2 (20GB/s Type-C), 1 x 2.5GB LAN port 1 x optical S/PDIF Out connector, Line-out and Mic-in.

Other features include the WiFi 6E with ultra high-gain antenna plus magnetic base, an Realtek 2.5GbE LAN, support for Bluetooth 5.3, Thunderbolt headers, you also get the onboard reset, clear CMOS and Q-Flash BIOS buttons, and the Realtek CODEC for 7.1 HD audio with WIMA Caps for High-Fidelity studio quality audio.

If you’re after an affordable all-white motherboard (with white PCB), then the Gigabyte Z790 Aorus Elite AX ICE is what you’re looking for. Trust me, I’ve searched the internet … and the only one that came up was this motherboard for around USD $200-$230. All other motherboards at this price range had black PCB with only some silver/white heatsinks added.
