I wanted an all-white motherboard for my new PC project build … and this is what Gigabyte sent me! The Z790 Aorus Pro X. It’s one of Gigabyte’s latest Intel Z790-based motherboard and comes in an all-white design.
It uses Intel’s Z790 chipset and supports all the latest 13th Gen and Intel’s next-gen processors on the LGA 1700 socket. It features a powerful 18+1+2 Twin Digital VRM design, and an 8-Layer 2X Copper PCB.
The motherboard is packed with great features and comes in an all-white finish (except for the connectors, which are still black). On the left side if the board, you’ll find a USB-C port which you can use to connect a USB monitor/LCD screen. It’s an onboard video port called Sensor panel Link and it’s ideal for monitoring system health.
For storage, it comes 4 x SATA ports and 5 x M.2 slots, which includes 1 x PCIE Gen5x4 and 4 x PCIE Gen4x4. These M.2 slots feature Gigabyte’s EZ latch click and M.2 EZ Latch plus, which allows users to mount your M.2 SSDs with ease. And to cool the M.2 SSDs, it’s covered by their impressive-looking M.2 Thermal Guard XL and Ext. full cover heat shield.
Expansion slots include 1 x PCIE 5.0 x16 slot which is strengthen by a zinc alloy, and 2 x PCIE 4.0 x16 slots.
There are also 4 x stainless steel DIMM slots supporting memory speeds of up to DDR5-8266. The motherboard features their new back drilling technology for increased data signal integrity and stability.
As far as connectivity is concerned, you get the latest WiFi 7 with ultra-high gain antenna and 5GbE LAN. On the back I/O pannel, there’s 1 x HDMI port, 1 x DisplayPort, 2 x USB 2.0, 4 x USB 3.2 Gen1, 2 x USB 3.2 Gen2 Type-A ports, 1 x USB 3.2 Gen2 (10Gb/s Type-C), 1 x USB 3.2 Gen 2×2 (20GB/s Type-C), 1 x optical S/PDIF Out connector, Line-in and Speaker-Out.
The audio is provided by the Realtek® ALC1220-VB CODEC with 7.1 High Definition audio, audiophile grade capacitors and support for S/PDIF Out.
There are also a reset switch located on the bottom right side of the board and a Q-flash button on the bottom for easy update of the BIOS.
Intel Z790 Chipset

The Z790 chipset allows a total 20 usable PCIE 4.0 lanes, with upto a maximum memory capacity of 128GB. It’s also capable of up to 10 x USB 3.2 Gen1 5Gbps, 10 x USB 3.2 Gen2 10Gbps and up to 5 x USB 3.2 Gen2x2 20Gbps.

We’ll be testing the Gigabyte Z790 AORUSPRO X with an Intel Core i7-14700KF (14th Gen Raptor Lake-S) processor, along with 32GB of Thermaltake Toughram XG RGB DDR5-7200, Lexar NM800 PCIE Gen4 SSD, and a Radeon RX 7900 XTX graphics card. My expectations is very high … so I’m expecting nothing more than excellent performance from the above setup.

I am building my next PC for video editing. It comprises:
– Mobo = Gigabyte Z790 AORUS PRO X (rev 1.0)
– CPU = Intel i9-14900K
– RAM = GSKILL TRIDENT Z5 DDR5-6400 32GBx2 CL32-39-39-102 1.60V
– SSD = 2 x WD SN850X 2TB NVME SSD (no heatsink) to be set up in RAID1 config. This is PCIE4.0 SSD.
– GPU = Gigabyte GV-N1650C-4DDV2 rev2 GDDR6. It is PCIE4.0 (Am reusing GPU from previous PC).
The GPU is to be installed in the PCIEX16 slot.
Given as the M2C_CPU connector, & PCIEX16 slot share bandwidth, to maximise speed, for RAID1 config, is it possible & better to install the 2 x WD SN850X SSD in:
a) M2C_CPU & M2A_CPU, or
b) M2Q_SB, & M2P_SB, or
c) M2A_CPU, & M2Q_SB?
