Conclusion and Verdict
In conclusion, The AX5400 is a router full of features and power that will have your new network moving right along. The features are endless. As you saw on the last page the backend has just about everything you could need. Even the guest network. Three to be exact and they protect your main network just as you would need. Some of the features are only available if you agree to let Trend Micro collect just about everything that happens on your network. I can see this necessary for some of the features but having to agree to some of those just to activate parental controls, network protection, or even the traffic analyzer, seems unnecessary. At least you can use the bandwidth limiter with our having to agree to anything. Thats nice to have so you can limit the amount of max bandwidth a particular device can pull. Kids get out of line set them to 56K and let them have a taste of the dial-up days! Jokes aside the feature set of this router is plentiful and has just about everything you would need to have a safe and secure network.
The setup wizard is also very easy to use. So, if you are new to setting up devices like this. I will give you the easiest way to do this. You won’t even need internet to do this. First plug in the router from the 1st LAN port. Not the one labeled internet or the blue colored one. Next make sure it is powered on and plug that into the ethernet port on your computer. Next you will want to launch chrome or edge. It doesn’t matter. It should take you right to the setup wizard. If for some reason it doesn’t, there are a ton of guides to get your gateway, simply using CMD. From there you can set log in credentials and all the SSID’s you will need. After you have everything configured and saved. Take the router and connect it to your ISP. Turn it on and in a quick minute you will be up and running. I hope this helps in setting it up for the first time. Not hard at all even if you are unsure of what to do!
The AX5400 has enough bandwidth that your device is likely going to be the bottleneck in this situation. The speeds I achieved in testing basically maxed my hardware’s capabilities. If you are lucky enough to have 1000Mbps of internet throughput, then you will see every bit of it and stable at that. Like any router the farther away you get the returns start to diminish of course. ASUS has a new technology called AiMesh. This is ASUS only so other router will not work with it, but you can add another AiMesh capable router to you network and have it as another node in your network that has full speed potential, everywhere. Now you be able to cover every floor and even the back yard if you choose too and not have that dreaded slow spot anywhere!
