Conclusion and Verdict
Since this is ASRock’s first attempt at making power supplies, I wasn’t too sure if they can deliver in terms of build quality, performance or stability. But to my surprise, the SL-850G PSU exceeded all our expectations. Not only was it rock solid stable at full load, but also provided quiet operation throughout tests.
So with that said, I have to congratulate ASRock for this amazing achievement, especially in such an over-crowded market place. What makes the SL-850G stand out from the rest, is the fact that it’s certified Cybenetics PLATINUM with LAMBDA A+ ratings. Both of these are recognised certifications for power supplies that high-light performance, build quality, reliability and noise level. For more information about Cybernetics and LAMBDA go here.
The high build quality of the power supply is thanks to the use of 100% Highly Reliable Japanese Capacitors, which gives it superior power efficiency. And you also get unquestionable stability via the powerful +12V single rail @ 70.9A, giving you a total power output of up to 850W.
The whole power supply is cooled by a large 135mm striped axial F-D-B fan, and features ASRock’s iCool Intelligent Fan Control Mode for low noise operation. It’s ASRock’s own take on the Zero RPM function.
The flat modular cables are nice, as it allows you to achieve more air-flow within your chassis. They’re clearly labelled and easy to plug in. The package also includes some cable ties and velcro straps for cable management.
During our tests, we installed the SL-850G on to our test rig which is comprised of an Intel Core i9-14900K processor and has a Turbo Boost TDP of 253W+, along with the GeForce RTX 4080 SUPER with a TBP of up to 320W. At 100% load, just these two components alone consumes well over 601+ Watts.
At full load, the +12V line was very stable and remained above +12V, with only a minor drop from +12.096V to +12.00V. For the +5V line, it was rock solid at +5.080V during full load, with no fluctuations at all. While the +3.3V line dropped ever so slightly from +3.296V to +3.280V. With all our tests done … I’m happy to say that the ASRock Steel Legend SL-850G is a very solid power supply in deed.
And lastly, ASRock have included an astonishing 10-Year warranty for peace of mind, which is pretty impressive for a 80Plus GOLD 850W power supply!
