Conclusion and Verdict
The Cougar GEX 850 is a great PSU. If I had to be picky I would like to have seen a switch to override the smart fan. That is just a personal preference. I like to fully utilize a power supplies cooling capabilities especially if I use that hardware a lot. The fans have a built in curve that spin up when the load hits about 40%. This should add plenty of cooling when you need it and cut down on the noise when your system is sitting idle. And once the fans do spin up the heat is quickly moved away from the internal components. As you can see from the testing the Voltages were pretty tight and the power supply performed very well under full load. Pair that with the +-3% regulation output, this is a very stable and safe power supply yo use even for those elusive 3000 series graphics cards.
Now for the big question will this power supply power the new cards?

One thing and the most important thing to remember when swapping out power supplies, IS NEVER REUSE CABLES FROM ANOTHER POWER SUPPLY! I would even caution this idea if its the same brand. I learned this the hard way in my past learning because I didn’t want to re-cable a case and come to find out some power supplies connectors vary brand to brand. Here is good explanation of what I am saying. Luckily when I did this I only lost some lights because the power supply was semi modular and that probably saved my mother board and CPU. Anyways take the time and use the cables that come with your power supply at all times!
