Enermax Platimax 1350w PSU Review

Dissection – Part 1

Disclaimer: Power supplies can have dangerous voltages inside them even after being unplugged, DO NOT OPEN POWER SUPPLIES. It’s just not a good idea. Opening a power supply and poking around inside could very well kill you. Don’t try this at home. Don’t try this at work. Just don’t do it.

Pulling the fan out, we see some PSU guts!

plat1350-guts-overview

Pretty sparsely populated unit for 1350w of platinum! It looks almost identical to the MAXREVO 1500w as well, definitely the same platform.

The fan is an ADDA jobby:

As previously mentioned, it’s transparent:

You can also see the plastic sheet that makes sure the air takes a useful route through the unit. It has some holes to put air directly onto the rectifier heatsink.

Our tour of the parts starts with the transient filter, which in turn starts with a self contained filter built into the receptacle server style:

It continues on the main PCB as well:

All told we have four inductors, six Y caps, two X caps, a fuse and a TVS diode. That’s a nice complete transient filter right there.

Next in line is the rectifier:

25 amps and 600 volts from the LL25XB60, that ought to do it nicely!

Next up are the APFC bits:

Two 35N60C3 MOSFETs (34a, 650v) for switching, plus a CREE diode that I can’t get a good picture of or read the numbers off.
