Gigabyte UD1000GM PG5 Power Supply Review

Conclusion and Verdict

Gigabyte has the full 16 pin 600W connector for graphics cards. This isn’t a certified requirement for graphics card yet, but it may be in the future. Just the fact that we are condensing the cables needed to power these brand-new cards is fantastic. Not only for cable management but for future proofing your build somewhat. You can get one of these power supply’s now that will probably see you through the next couple generations of PCI-e graphics cards. You may not be ready to use that cable yet but soon hopefully. And I can already feel the relief of not having to use that 3-way adapter!

This power is quite compact for a 1000W power supply. The fan is 120mm and the overall size will allow you to use in some smaller cases. The air flow seemed decent, and the noise was virtually silent. This is usually the case if you have several other fans in your setup. One thing to note is this fan has an idle stop setting that can’t be shut off. It will only engage the fan when the internal temps say we need it. I am a fan of having an override. I am more worried about keeping my PSU as cool as possible rather than dust.

We don’t have the special equipment to overload the power supply to test the limits, but we pushed it pretty hard with 580W constantly running through it and it held up well with no signs of hot cables or massive amounts of heat coming out if it. The graph looked consistent with how it should have acted under a heavy load.

The new 3090Ti draws 450W and is recommended to have a 1000W PSU.

Now for the big question will this power supply power the new cards? Yes, make sure you do your research and make sure you are able to meet the power requirements of your system when getting a new power supply.

AMD Radeon 6000 Series Power draw and Recommended PSU size breakdown

GPU Recommended PSU size
RX 6900 XT 750W
RX 6800 XT 700W
RX 6700 XT 600W

One thing and the most important thing to remember when swapping out power supplies, IS NEVER REUSE CABLES FROM ANOTHER POWER SUPPLY! I would even caution this idea if its the same brand. I learned this the hard way in my past learning because I didn’t want to re-cable a case and come to find out some power supplies connectors vary brand to brand. Here is good explanation of what I am saying. Luckily when I did this I only lost some lights because the power supply was semi modular and that probably saved my mother board and CPU. Anyways take the time and use the cables that come with your power supply at all times!
