Photos: The Box, The PSU, The Connectors
A dude! With a big gun! And (power?) Armor! And no helmet. What the hell, dude? Always wear a helmet! Please note the “ATI CROSSFIRE”, “NVIDIA SLI”, and “500W” bits.
We’ve seen most of this. We do get a picture of the PSU though, and a cable listing that would be a lot more useful if it were filled out.
Opening the box we find:
A power supply! And no padding to speak of, just a flap of cardboard that folds down. Oh well.
Decently nice looking PSU though. The way the primary caps are laid out is not promising.
So far this looks decently promising, it’s heavy, the cables are sleeved all the way into the unit, the cable opening has a full grommet for protecting the cables, and it has a PFC coil for passive power factor correction. On the other hand the primary caps are two 200v units for a 220v PSU, implying that they’re wired in series to make a 400v cap with a 200v tap. This in turn implies either a voltage doubler (unlikely) or a quite old type of PSU. I’m betting it’s the second one. Remember what the box said about running on 110v? No way in hell.
For cables we get an ATX20+4P and a 4+4P for the motherboard, three SATAs (one without 3.3V), two Molexes, one FDD and one PCIe 6+2P. How you’re supposed to run CFX/SLI with a single PCIe cable I don’t know.
Let’s test this thing!
