Verdict and Conclusion
This power supply made a remarkably good attempt at being a functional unit. Unfortunately a bad design decision and a horrid job of installing the temperature sensor resulted in a BANG.
We’re going to skip the list and go straight to pros/cons.
Pros:
- Cheap.
- Looks great.
- Held 300w at low ambients.
Cons:
- Exploded, potential to kill all hardware attached.
- Extremely limited protections, not sure if they work at all.
- Assembler put the fan control temp sensor in incorrectly.
- Can’t do anything close to its rated wattage, due to the above.
- Marketing highly inaccurate. No SLI/CFX support here.
- Loudish 60Hz hum at high loads.
- Did I mention it went BANG?
Final words. All told this came remarkably close to being a decent bargain unit, but as it is it ended up being more of a disaster. I give it 3/10 largely because it came close. With better assembly methods it probably would have lived, but I wouldn’t trust it anyway really.
