Photos Part Two: The PSU
I think I found it. It’s PSU shaped. It’s the proper weight. It even has PSU type cables coming out of the sack!
That’s the top of the unit, white and black, looks nice. Can’t see much of the insides from this angle, but if you look closely you can see Superflower DC-DC bits peeking through the fan. That’s no real shock though.
On the flip side we have a label and a couple stickers. Thankfully, PC Power and Cooling has decided not to pay to license the modular cable idea, this is wise as the patent behind it (Ultra’s) got thrown out. It’s good for us because it means no huge rainbow shiny “We paid! Go away lawyers!” sticker.
Both sides look like this, keeping the monochrome streak going. I still like it.
Hot air exits here. We also get to see the fan switch, it looks identical to the 1200W flavor. Note that its two positions are a bit odd, one is centered like in the photo, the other is all the way to one side. The other side (and its cutout) are not used.
Output end, it comes with silicone caps for the connectors. Pretty nice.
Caps off!
Full disclosure time: These two photos are of unit #2 that I got, the first unit had a broken pin in one modular connector. How that happened I have no idea, I couldn’t find the pin in the box, it was a very clean break, and those pins are solid metal not rolled sheet metal. My contacts at the company were shocked as well. Standard policy is to allow manufacturers to send a second unit without a reduction in score, as manufacturing defects happen on all products and at all factories. This second unit has all the pins, as expected. The only real issue with this is that if the second unit has any issues at all, we’re stuck with it.
We’ll check out the cables themselves on the next page.
