Verdict and Conclusion
I have to admit, I didn’t realize how important audio recordings can be, especially if it’s for a podcast or a voice over for a video. A video with bad quality audio is extremely difficult to watch, and totally destroys your enjoyment out of the video. Low volume, hissing, interference and background noises, can kill the whole production.
We have tried 3-4 different microphones over the past few months, including the Zoom H2N recorder which we thought was by far the best. It’s a complete audio recording device with its own DAC/ADC. It’s portable, light-weight and compact plus it comes with many options for connectivity. However, if you want complete mobility and less clutter … why not use your iPhone? And this, my friend is where the Sennheiser MKE 2 Digital lapel microphone comes in.
Setup was simple and easy. All you need to do is download the Apogee MetaRecorder app, plug in the Sennheiser MKE 2 Digital lapel microphone via your lightning connector, hit the record button … and away you go.
- Sample recording from iPhone’s internal microphone …
- Sample recording using the Sennheiser MKE 2 Digital …
The quality of the audio recording from the Sennheiser MKE 2 Digital lapel microphone is, to put it simply … superb. My voice was crystal clear with minimal background noise, even among a really noisy outdoor environment. The volume is good, so there was no need to use the gain. Once you have recorded the file, you can easily share your recordings via Dropbox (natively), AirDrop or Email.
If I have the funds, I would definitely recommend the Sennheiser MKE 2 Digital lapel mic without hesitation … but costing a MSRP price of USD $499, it’s quite a hefty price tag for a lapel mic. Buy now at Amazon – https://goo.gl/IHGlZk
