Verdict
So readers, let us discuss some key points of this headset and go over the positive and negative points. So first of all regarding the overall comfort of this headset, I did find the Pulse-R to be a comfortable headset. The earcups and headband are soft thanks to the cushions. The cable is very nice as well; it is a braided cable and I absolutely love that. My Corsair vengeance K60 keyboard and Mionix Naos 700 mouse both have a braided cable as well; it is soft and does not strangle, and the braided cable gives any device a look that is a bit more “premium”.
The microphone is removable but I do not find it a big plus but neither a negative point, removable mics are really easy to lose and I just know some people are going to lose it. It is not bad cause permanent mics are even worse; always hanging in your way with no way to remove them or tuck them away.
The aluminum on the headset looks cool and gives the headset a special look; even on the remote there is some aluminum. When you plug in the USB cable you can see some LEDs go shiine on both sides of the earcups and on the remote. The only thing I do not understand is why CM Storm opted for 3.5mm jacks and a USB for lights instead of just a USB cable for audio and LEDs.
The disadvantages of the headset in my eyes are the unclear indications on both the 3.5mm jacks, the pink and green colors are looking the same from some distance (even from close you can still miss between the two) I personally would go for a mic and headphone symbol. The in-line remote is sometimes a bit annoying as it always falls to the ground (thanks to the gravity) and it pulls the cable down too. When using the headset for an extended period of time your ears will start to get warm and sweat a little bit. For people who will use their headset for a whole day I just cannot recommend buying this headset. However, if you only use your headset for an hour or two a day you will not have that issue to worry about.
Pros:
- Comfortable
- Braided cable
- Cool look with aluminum finish
- LEDs (when USB is plugged in)
Cons:
- Lack of symbols on the 3.5mm jacks were a bit unclear (audio or mic)
- In-line remote annoying
- Ears start to sweat after extended use
Final words:
This headset costs around 60 euros and I find this a good price point for what the headset delivers, though it can not compete with headsets like the Steelseries Elite and other headsets priced around the 200 euros; but it is also more than three times cheaper. It has some pretty cool features though like the braided cable, aluminum look, LEDs. and some minor negative points like the (in my opinion) annoying remote, unclear indications for the 3.5mm jacks and warm sweaty ears after long use. It is surely not bad headset if you are looking for a good headset for a decent price.
