Closer Look
The HELIUM 300BT speakers arrived in a retail package that protects the product well and suggests that inside is something special. As far as the external cardboard looks quite standard, it includes everything we may need to know about the product. Once we remove it, then we see a nice, thick black box with black glossy logos. I feel like Genesis should put there a bloody-red logo on the top with a label that includes general features on the side and leave it like that for the better effect and some mysterious look. It probably wouldn’t give all the information but would get more attention on the store shelves. Those who are buying electronics online, so let’s be honest, most of us don’t care about the package. Those who buy in a retail store can decide on a product by looking at its package.
Inside the box, we will find well-protected speakers, a user’s manual, and all the cables we need. You can’t see that in the photos, but thick foams protect speakers, and the box sides are also thick, so there is no way that the product will be damaged in transport.
The speakers can be connected with Bluetooth or more standard chinch to mini-jack cables. Both options give about the same sound quality. Still, most users decide on this product because of the Bluetooth connection, which offers versatility as we are not limited to devices with a mini-jack connector but can also use all mobile devices like smartphones, tablets, or modern laptops.
I will start with the build quality.
As far as the product is solid, nothing is moving, and used materials aren’t bad, then the design reminds me of gaming products that already have 3-4 years. A couple of years ago, gaming products had a carbon finish, bringing mixed feelings, and I simply didn’t like it. I would expect something more modern in a new gaming series. Since it’s a matter of personal preferences, I assume that some readers won’t agree with me.
The front panel is made of plastic which is already simple and smooth. Since the wooden box has a carbon finish, then we would expect to see it on the front too. I would rather use a dark wood finish on all sides that would give a high-end effect. Again, that’s how I wish to see it.
One of the speakers has all the connectors, volume and bass control, a USB port designed for external RGB control and synchronization, and a power switch. The second speaker has only a connection via cable. This is a typical design as the electricity isn’t wireless, and both speakers require a power source and signal.
The speakers are in 2.0 design, so both satellites are rated the same, so at 12W RMS. This is more than enough for desk speakers. Speakers have a frequency response between 100 and 20000 Hz. We wish to see a wider range, but it’s hard to find anything much better in this class of product. The most important is how the product works, as the specifications do not always give us the whole picture.
Speakers deliver clear sound, and there is no problem with that regardless if we are using Bluetooth or cable connection. I could only expect that the bass would be deeper as I have seen smaller and older speaker series that could handle it better.
Bluetooth works in a typical range of about 10-12 meters. Above that all depends if anything is on the way or not.
There were no problems with speakers, but I have to add that sometimes I had to pair speakers again as Windows couldn’t reconnect when the PC was going into sleep mode. Hard to say if it’s on the speakers or OS side. In any other case, there were no issues and long hours of work were no problem.
Genesis HELIUM 300BT are speakers designed for gamers and for that are a much better option than to those users who mainly listen to music. We won’t hear missing tones in games while the high-quality music won’t be deep enough. On the other hand, this is a product for gamers, and its price isn’t high, so I feel it perfectly fits the needs of gamers with a lower budget.
One of the key features is, of course, RGB illumination. Everything nowadays has RGB illumination, so gaming speakers need it too. The HELIUM 300BT offers us a full rainbow mode and a couple of additional modes, which we can adjust using the RGB button on the speaker’s side. We can also connect the ARGB cable via a USB port and synchronize the effect with other devices. The speakers are compatible with Polychrome RGB, Mystic Light Sync, RGB Fusion, and AuraSync, so all popular standards of PC motherboards. This is a nice feature for those who like to have everything in the same colors.
As you can see in the above photos, RGB effects give the HELIUM 300BT life. LEDs are not too flashy what is an advantage as some products come with annoying, too bright light, and you only want to cover it. It’s not the case with the HELIUM 300BT.
