A Closer Look
The first observation that I had about the Cavimanus was the trendy appearance and mirror black finish contrasted by a satin look for the top of the headband. The finish is super smooth and superb. The Cavimanus is also much lighter in weight than I expected due to its bulkier size. However the construction is definitely solid and consists of high quality materials. The foam padding all around is thick enough to remain comfortable even after long listening sessions. The ear pads are not overly large yet are adequate and comfortable even on my larger ears. The Cavimanus headset has a single gold-plated USB connector and unfortunately cannot be connected to a smart phone, tablet, or any other mobile device with a 3.5mm jack.
Just in case you were wondering, the Cavimanus does have height adjustment as well. The left earpiece is home to all of the headset’s controls as well as the microphone boom. The microphone conveniently folds down for VOIP communication and folds away to automatically mute or deactivate. This design is a much nicer alternative to the typical removable or retracting style boom mic found in other headsets. A power LED is also present and pulsates with a blue hue when the headset is in use. The volume dial is situated nicely to follow the curvy shave of the earpiece and is easy enough to locate for adjustment. There is also a small button located here simply labeled “V” which enables the Cavimanus’s “vibrate function”.
Installation
Installing the Cavimanus headset is simple enough, simple plug the device into your laptop or desktop’s available USB port. This headset is plug and play which means that installing the included software is not required. However, if you want to experience the 7.1 Virtual Surround Sound, installing the software is highly recommended.
The software is very basic and does not echo the style and flare that the Cavimanus headset delivers. However, what the software lacks in aesthetics it makes up for in functionality. Several additional options related to DSP effects, voice changing effects, and environmental effects are all present and customizable. The software runs in the system background with minimal resources which is always greatly appreciated.
Performance
Gaming
The Cavimanus is a great gaming headset. The crystal-clear-clarity of hearing shots go by in a friendly multiplayer round of BF4 was simply stunning. The realism offered when a headset sounds this clear is extremely important to gamers trying to find that extra edge, and the Cavimanus delivers. The 7.1 Virtual Surround Sound will send you in a whirlwind of ear-tasticness for those games that have an onslaught of sound chemistry.
Movies
Another attribute to a great headset is its ability to give a proper listening experience during your favorite film. My favorite film of all time is the Star Wars saga. From the loud and courageous orchestra music of hope and the moody tones of the dark side to the whizzing of light sabers and blaster shots; the Cavimanus manages to perform and do the movies proper justice.
Music
Alas, the true form of art and entertainment. It really does not matter what type or genre that you listen to; the Cavimanus reproduces music at a more than acceptable quality. The best part about this headset aside from the comfort, is the “V” or vibration function. When you are ready to switch from that classical piece to some thumping dubstep, simply press the “V” button to activate some mind-blowing and eardrum massaging bass in the form of a massive boost that will have you giggity. Listening with this extra boost enlightened me into an entirely new perspective of headsets in general with regards to bass and low-end reproduction. You really have to feel it for yourself to believe it!
