HMDX Jam Portable Bluetooth Speaker Review

Photos: The Jam, Inside and Out

Let’s, finally, look at the Jam itself:

jam-unit-top

It’s a speaker! A round, red, speaker!

It looks like…. Well…. Itself, really. You can see the aux-in port there too.

Here we have the entirety of the input options (other than radio, of course), plus the power switch.

jam-unit-controls

The controls. There’s a little LED in the gap above the battery picture. On the right side is a Bluetooth icon you can’t really see, it has an LED above it too.

jam-unit-bottom

On the bottom is a power switch. I’m happy to see it. You can charge with it turned off, by the way. Also note the smooth doughnut around the outside, it has a tremendous amount of grip on flat surfaces. This thing does not slide, at all, until it tips over.

Me being me, I took it apart. Don’t do this.

jam-guts-1

Speaker chamber on the left (flexible chamber base, the speaker itself is at the top), electronics package and battery on the right.

jam-guts-2

It’s a decently juicy battery, the side marking is under foam that will have to be picked off square mm by square mm, it’ll remain a mystery. The actual electronic guts are simpler than I really expected.
