HyperX Cloud MIX Wired Gaming Headset with Bluetooth Review

Performance, Effects and Closer Look

The Cloud MIX is my fifth HyperX headset, so I have something to compare. There will also be reviewed the CloudX Flight-S soon, so if you are curious about it, then keep checking our website in the next days.

The Cloud MIX is probably the most comfortable headset I had a chance to use. It’s light thanks to used materials like the aluminum frame, so we won’t be tired of wearing it even after a couple of hours. Actually, I was testing this headset for long hours, and it wasn’t any problem what I can’t say about some previous HyperX headsets or most competitive products. Every HyperX headset which I’m reviewing is better, and I’m glad that designers continuously find something to improve.

Used materials are high-quality. I can’t say anything bad about anything. Even plastic elements feel premium. Especially paddings made of memory foam and leather finish feel really comfortable to use and also look exceptional. The design, in general, is a matter of personal preferences. I’m glad to see the white version of this headset as it gives a choice as most other headsets are only available in black. There is also a black version if anyone feels that white mixed with rose-gold is maybe too girly. Even though Pokimane looks the best in them (the first page of this review or HyperX website) then others who took part in the “WE’RE ALL GAMERS” series also look good in the white version. I’m a guy, and I’m not complaining.

The headset looks similar to other HyperX Cloud series, but somehow it feels like something more, and I don’t even mean its versatility. However, since I mentioned that then let’s be honest, how many headsets on the market let us use both, wired or wireless connection? I doubt that many readers can answer that question right now. The Cloud MIX offers something that wasn’t available and lets us use various devices on how we want or how these devices allow us. For example, we can’t use Bluetooth connection with Nintendo Switch just because the Switch is not supporting anything that the standard 3.5mm jack. But the Cloud MIX can be connected this way, so there is no problem with using it.

When we are switching devices, then everything is as simple as to connect the cable or turn on Bluetooth. Computers or smartphones will remember our Bluetooth connection, so we have to pair it only one time. Everything sounds easy, and it really is.

The Cloud MIX is designed to work on a wireless connection for up to 20 hours. This is what we can read in the specifications, but it depends on how loud the sound is. Assuming it will be set in the middle, then it should last 20 hours. Of course, I had to check how it looks like in real, and I was glad to see it could run up to 28 hours. It’s a huge difference. I’m not sure if this was my sample, or just every Cloud MIX headset acts the same way. I will only add that the reviewed headset is a retail product, the same as you can buy in the store.

Pictures above and below present the detachable microphone and a cable with volume control and mic on/off switch. It looks simple, and I guess it supposed to be this way as the most important is to use it easily. We can use the mic when we want to or just detach it if we are going out and want to listen only to the music.

The microphone was working without issues during the tests. I’ve seen mixed comments about it on the web, but I had no problems, and the recorded quality was quite good. Personally, I’m not using the mic really often, so maybe someone who is using it for long hours could find something more, but tests performed for the review needs were showing no problems, so I assume that all is satisfying.

I left the sound quality for the end, as it’s probably the strongest point of the Cloud MIX headset. Regardless if we are using a wired or wireless connection, the quality is about the same, and it makes me happy. The Bluetooth connection works up to about 15 meters or 10-12, including a thin wall. It’s more than I was expecting, but I guess that barely anyone will go farther from the source of the sound.

Every new HyperX headset which I’m reviewing is giving me a slightly better sound experience, but in the case of the Cloud MIX, it was just a “wow” effect. I could literally hear sounds in well-known songs which I’ve never heard before, or I just couldn’t focus on that. The frequency response between 10Hz and 40000Hz is really the thing and not only some numbers in the specification.

The sound quality is impressive; either I listen from popular streaming services like Spotify, audio CD, or vinyl. I had to pass various sound sources, and every single one was giving me great effects. Being curious about the sound ranges, I’ve checked various kinds of music, even though I’m rather a fan of harder rock. Everything was giving me a similar experience, a deep clear sound.

The Cloud MIX is designed for gamers, so of course, I had to test it in games on PC and my Nintendo Switch. As you expect, it couldn’t be worse than listening to music. The sound is clear, and the tones are just where they should be. There is no distortion in any form or in any form that my ears can hear. Of course, every person can hear in a bit different way and at a bit varied frequency range. I’m not calling myself an audiophile, but the Cloud MIX impressed me in many ways.
