Sennheiser GSP 300 Closed Acoustic Gaming Headset Review

Audio Performance

First off, the Sennheiser GSP 300 does not require any drivers for installation, just plug and play. The downside to this is that it does not have any way of fine tuning the sounds. Sennheiser went the extra step with this headset by stepping up the bass and the result is fantastic. The deeper tones result in a rich listening experience, whether it be the distant sound of artillery in a Battlefield game to the dulcet tones heard in choral music, but with no audio controls, the GSP 300 cannot prioritize different sounds we now get in cinematic games. It’s not top end stuff, but the GSP 300 is still very good for gaming.

It’s a Sennheiser headphone, so surely music quality must be top-notch…..just about. As mentioned, whilst the bass and deep tones are full of volume, the GSP 300 falls a little short in terms of clarity at the higher end of the frequencies. For a person like myself who tends to listen to a lot of RnB, the GSP 300 are a great pair of audio headphones. With a clear distinction between treble and bass, the GSP 300 can handle complex songs with ease.

The microphone on the GSP 300 can be activated simply by lowering the boom attached on the left earcup, with a satisfying click when it is in place ready to be used. The microphone performs superbly with no loss of volume from my voice. Sennheiser has added in broadcast-level noise cancelling here so that background noise is not picked up. The main gripe here is that for the microphone on the GSP 300 to work well, you will need to position it very close to your mouth. Positioning the microphone more than an inch away from my mouth, and the microphone did not pick up my voice very well, I guess it treated my voice as background noise…..

Verdict & Conclusion

The Sennheiser GSP 300 is definitely a pair of very good gaming headset with minor gripes here and there, but still delivers the goods when it matters the most. Whilst the GSP 300 is very comfort to put on for extended periods of time, its slightly bland looks comes it being a ‘hybrid’ of being a gaming headset from Sennheiser.
