Performance
At first it was a struggle for us to find an audio system capable of truly testing out the Sennheiser HD 800S, luckily we had a friend that works in a recording studio who gave us unlimited access to the studio to really see for ourselves how good the HD 800S really is. Forget trying to use the HD 800S with your smartphone or MP3 player, you’re not only not doing the HD 800S any justice, but there’s just no way they have the juice to power it.
There’s no sound isolation of noise cancelling here, just pure audio, so others around you will hear whatever you are listening to, and to get the best out the HD 800S you will want to use them in a quiet room.
Due to the design of the HD 800s, you are going to get an immense soundstage; the expansive sound is not bouncing around your head, but rather its as if you are in a room with your favourite band playing. The sound is so open, you get the sense of surround sound coming through the ear cups, and there’s not many headphones out there that can say it can do that.
The accuracy of the audio from the HD 800S is breath-taking. Even though the bass is powerful and full of force, and whilst it is dominant, in no way does it drown out the rest of the sounds. The treble and mid-tones are frightfully accurate and crystal clear……….its just some of the best sounds you’ve ever hear from a pair of headphones!
Verdict & Conclusion
If I had to sum up the Sennheiser HD 800S I would use the word ‘immense’, these truly are a pair of mind-boggling amazing pair of headphones, and arguably the best out there.
At USD$1700.00 a pair, the HD 800S will be out of budget for a lot of people, but to those that can afford it, you really will not be disappointed with its performance.
