Today, we’ll be taking a quick look at the Adata SC680 External SSD. This external SSD storage device has a capacity of 480GB, and utilizes the USB 3.2 Gen 2 (Type-C) interface. According to Adata, the SC680 can offer read speeds of around 530Mb/sec, and write speeds of upto 460Mb/sec. That’s almost x6 times faster than ordinary external hard drives.
There are a few advantages of owning an external SSD. Since there are no mechanical components inside, external SSDs tend to be more resilient than their HDD counterparts. They are also more resistant to shock, vibration, and therefore provide better protection for data. What’s more, SSDs also run silently too.
This external SSD is tiny, measuring just 86.7 x 61 x 10mm and weighing in at only 35g. It’s perfect for any content creators who’s always on the go, but also want the speed of an SSD for large data transfer, especially during photo or video editing.
I think for an external SSD, a storage capacity of around 480GB is the bare minimum I would recommend. But if you’ve got the budget, I would definitely go for the next model up, which is either a 960GB or 1TB.
Confused and NAND flash memory? Well, there are several types of NAND flash memory used in most of today’s SSDs. The two most popular are SLC and MLC, and now TLC. Here’s a little background taken from Tomsitpro.
