Verdict and Conclusion
As a content creator, I tend to use a lot of external storage devices, for transferring large video files between my digital camera and my laptop/desktop. So it’s important for me to use something that’s fast and affordable. I’ve used many USB external hard drives in the past, with capacity ranging from 256GB to 2TB. All suffer the same issues … slow transfer rates! Not surprising, since most of them are mechanical drives using USB 3.0 interface.
Well I’m glad to say … with the ADATA SC680 external SSD, I’ve actually killed 2 birds with 1 stone. Thanks to the 480GB of NAND flash storage, along with the USB 3.2 Gen 2 interface (Type-C), I now have an external storage device that offers decent performance similar to an internal 2.5″ SATA SSD!
During our benchmark tests, the ADATA SC680 consistently performed above its specified speeds, which was quite a surprise to say the least. On average, we got a read speed of 535MB/sec (5Mb/sec more than specified), and a write speed of 470Mb/sec (10MB/sec more than specified). So as far performance is concerned … I’m very pleased with it.
The ADATA SC680’s other attractive selling points, include the resistance to shock and vibration, as well as its compact size. Measuring just 86.7 x 61 x 10mm and weighing in at only 35g, it’s perfect for any content creators who’s always on the go.
