ADATA XPG Spectrix S40G RGB M.2 PCI-E Gen3x4 512GB SSD Review

Load Temps

At full load, temperatures reached a high 74 degree Celsius, which is within my expectations. So all good here … anything toward 80 degrees would ring alarm bells.

Verdict and Conclusion

Being an avid PC modding enthusiast, I have to say a majority of M.2 SSDs are probably the most apathetic piece of equipment within your system. Once installed, it hardly gets noticed and most people don’t even know it’s there. It’s small and pretty dull to say the least. But not any more! You can add a little sparkle inside your PC with the ADATA XPG Spectrix S40G RGB. And being compatible with Asus AURA sync, Gigabyte Fusion, MSI Mystic Light, and ASRock Polychrome RGB … you can easily integrate it with all these amazing RGB ecosystems mentioned above.

As far as performance is concerned, the ADATA XPG Spectrix S40G didn’t disappoint neither. During our benchmarks, it produced excellent read speeds of between 3,530-3,543 Mb/sec, while write speeds reached 1767-2,144 Mb/sec. There are some improvements that can be made in terms of write speeds, but I’m sure Realtek will improve on this with their next generation of SSD controllers. With that said, it will take some time for enthusiast to take a liking to Realtek’s SSD controller (Realtek RTS5762) … it is after all the new kid on the block.

The ADATA XPG Spectrix S40G RGB comes in sizes of 256GB / 512GB / 1TB / 2TB. The smallest size of 256GB would be good to use just as boot drive. But I would recommend a minimum of 512GB, it’s the perfect size to use a boot drive and for my applications. Of course if your budget allows, 1TB or 2TB is always good to have.

I don’t care what anyone says … most of you may not like RGB and probably sick and tired of it, but give me anything RGB and I just fall  instantly in love with it.
