Verdict and Conclusion
The Asus Wireless Duo 1TB is a good consumer storage product for your everyday average user, who wants to easily transfer photos/movies/data to a storage device wirelessly via the web browser. It works with your iPad, iPhone, Kindle Fire and any Android devices, including of course your PC or Macbook.
The build quality is good, it’s simple to use and it’s affordable. I particularly like the built-in SD card reader, which allows me to just dump all my footage straight on to the device itself … easy! It can alsio be used to expand it storage capacity. Most external storage devices don’t have this, and let’s not forget the wireless feature, built-in battery and the water resistance.
And here are the negatives. The transfer rate isn’t what I expected. With an average read/write speed of just under 100 Mb/sec, it’s just a little bit better than what you would get from a fast SD card. I was hoping for more … at least 150-200 Mb/sec. I have a feeling that the bult-in SD card reader or the WIFI capability is affecting its performance. Professional users, such as photographers and video editors want speed more than anything else, might want to look elsewhere. This product isn’t really designed for you.
Pricewise, the Asus Wireless Duo 1TB Portable Storage will cost you around USD $160, which isn’t too bad considering you do get a lot of user friendly features.
