Specification
Above table is showing us the main differences between MX100 and new MX200 SSD series. As we see MX200 has improved performance but also endurance. MX200 is also available in more form factors like mSATA or M.2 2260/2280.
Depends from source maximum read bandwidth is 550MB/s or 555MB/s. For sure we will check it in our tests.
MX200 uses a Marvell 88SS9189 controller and 16nm NAND manufactured by Micron so not much different than we could see in MX100.
Crucial MX200 also supports RAIN technology. Let me quote a short description of RAIN from Crucial website and I think all will be clear:
At the most basic level, RAIN technology protects your data at the component level, similar to how RAID is used with multiple hard drives. Think of RAIN as you would real rain: When it’s raining outside, rain lands all over the place. When you save data on a Crucial SSD that has RAIN, that’s exactly what’s happening. It’s raining. Your data is being saved and dispersed (“landing”) on multiple different storage components on the drive. That way, if one of the components on the drive were to fail, your data would still be preserved elsewhere on the drive, and you’d still be able to access your tax records, photos, songs, and other files and applications. |
Features
Run your system longer than ever before – using less power.
With Extreme Energy Efficiency technology, the Crucial MX200 is over 2x more energy efficient than a typical hard drive.
Keep your memories, photos, and files safe.
When a photo or file gets corrupted, it often becomes unusable. Prevent this from happening in the first place with the Crucial MX200, which arms every storage component with four layers of Exclusive Data Defense.
Push your drive to the limit and avoid overheating.
Adaptive Thermal Protection technology enables the Crucial MX200 to dynamically adjust storage component activity based on how you’re using the drive, allowing your storage system to stay cool.
Do more. Faster. Longer.
The Crucial MX200 delivers 555 MB/s sequential reads on both compressible and incompressible data, and outperforms a typical hard drive by 400 MB/s.1 Even better, the performance doesn’t let up, as the Crucial MX200 posts an endurance rating that’s up to 5 times greater than a typical client SSD.
Transfer and save large files in a matter of seconds.
Competing SSDs typically rely on a fixed cache of multi-level cell flash memory, which allows you to write sequential data at published specs, but only for so long. Our industry-leading Dynamic Write Acceleration technology solves this problem by using an adaptable pool of high speed, single-level cell flash memory for consistently fast performance that doesn’t let up.
Encrypt and protect your data at the highest possible level.
Keep personal files and sensitive information secure from hackers and thieves with AES 256-bit encryption – the same grade used by banks and hospitals. The Crucial MX200 meets or exceeds all industry encryption standards, including Microsoft® eDrive, IEEE-1667, and TCG Opal 2.0.
Max out performance and increase reliability.
Our engineers created RAIN technology to protect your data at the component level, similar to how RAID is used with multiple hard drives. This technology increases the security and protection of your data to a level that’s rarely seen in consumer-class SSDs.
Closer Look
Crucial MX200 SSD in M.2 version has arrived in a standard for Crucial memory box. Actually it’s the same package in which we are receiving memory modules.
There is nothing unusual in this type of package. Transparent plastic let us see what is inside and quite large label includes all basic info like serial number or main contact to support ( which we count to never need ).
Inside the package we can find quite small SSD drive – MX200 in SATA M.2 form factor. Most of the components on the PCB are covered with a sticker. Sticker itself is providing similar info to what we could see on the package. Nothing really interesting like serial and product numbers but can be important in case if we wish to find additional info about this product or make RMA.
Crucial MX200 M.2 SSD is single sided what simply means that on the back of the PCB we can’t find any components. The only thing which we can see are two stickers like on the picture below.
Crucial MX200 M.2 SSD is easy to install regardless if we wish to use it in desktop or laptop computer. Insert MX200 into the M.2 socket and protect with single screw. Simple as that.
