General specification looks good but we’ve seen higher declared speed in other SSD. Not always what is in the specification works as fast in real. We will see how it looks for MX300 M.2 SSD on the next page of this review while now we will focus on specifications and features.

Below is screenshot from CrystalDiskInfo which is showing that our MX300 SSD is in perfect condition. The same you can see in Crucial Storage Executive which also has additional features and is really easy to use. We can update firmware without browsing manufacturer’s website, check drives health or use Momentum Cache feature which is working on all Crucial drives and maybe I shouldn’t say that but also on other brands too. Depends on PC specification enabling Momentum Cache can speed up your drive up to ten times. This is what Crucial says and it’s actually true what you can see in this or previous Crucial reviews.
The latest version of Storage Executive is available here – download.
Package and its Contents
Package of MX300 M.2 SSD looks like a package for single memory module. It’s transparent and I can assure you it protects SSD really good regardless how it looks like.
On the package we won’t find much info. There is however the most important so product name and number and of course capacity which in this case is 1050GB. Quite unusual as we used to see or 960GB or 1000GB SSD. Crucial has it’s own design and all MX300 drives are in not so popular capacities like 275, 525 or 1050GB. I actually like this fact as for my needs 240GB is a bit small while 275GB is just right. We have to remember that after format usable capacity is slightly lower. In this case it’s still about 1TB while competitive 960GB SSD will have a bit above 900GB free space. It’s already big difference in similar price.
Except MX300 drive in the package is also Acronis HD license so we can clone our old drive and mounting screws. Some readers may say that screws are nothing special but most laptop manufacturers are not adding these small screws and it’s not so easy to buy them.
The MX300 is built with Micron’s TLC 3D NAND which comparing to standard TLC provides much better endurance and higher performance. The MX300 has three year warranty but average daily usage in home or office PC should let it work for more than five years.
There are also additional features which are helping to keep our data safe like SMART, ECC or AES-256 data encryption, Power Loss Protection and some more. Also to keep our drive in perfect condition and optimal performance all the time, the drive uses TRIM, Active Garbage Collection and Dynamic Write Acceleration and RAIN which is something like RAID mode but on the cell level.
Since we said about all technologies then let’s check how are they working in our tests.
