Conclusion and Verdict
Crucial P2 surprised me with a much higher performance than that declared by the manufacturer. We were able to see results up to 50% higher than specified what is impressing, especially for end-users who are not expecting that at all.
The drive itself has a classic M.2 2280 size, so it fits into every laptop and desktop PC with an M.2 PCIe socket. Worth to mention is also low operating temperature which is about 30°C idle and about 50°C under load. It makes the P2 a perfect drive for small laptops where is a limited airflow.
Crucial is adding a feature called Momentum Cache, which is improving drive’s performance, so if we wish to make our P2 SSD even faster, then we can enable it. It’s free but probably a better option for laptops or desktops with a UPS because of data safety when it’s cached into RAM.
The Crucial P2 500GB NVMe SSD around $65 in the Amazon store – https://amzn.to/3lMhwHb and about the same in the Crucial store – click here. Amazon has a promotion right now, and the P2 500GB is about $5 cheaper.
The last thing worth mentioning is a five-year warranty. It’s an extended warranty considering this is not a high SSD series. Usually, only top SSD have such a long warranty, but it looks like Crucial is sure about its product quality. Crucial also offers excellent support in case of any issue. We can say it’s already legendary as it reacts quickly, and in the worst case, the end-user receives a product replacement within a couple of days.
Pros:
- High performance
- Reasonable price
- High quality
- High compatibility
- Low operating temperature
- 5-year warranty
Cons:
- Still could be faster
Final words:
The Crucial P2 SSD is a clear winner if we compare it to other, less expensive M.2 PCIe SSDs. It may not be the fastest, but offers respectable performance, which should satisfy most users. It’s also a perfect upgrade for those who purchased a laptop with a slower drive like a SATA or PCIe x2. The P2 should also satisfy most gamers, as its performance in random operations is high, and the speed for loading a lot of small files is actually, not much lower than that of a high-end SSD series. The P2 is a perfect mix of high performance and high quality at a reasonable price.
Crucial P2 500GB SSD is a highly recommended budget M.2 PCIe SSD and receives our Value Award as it offers an excellent balance between the price and performance.
You can buy the Crucial P2 500GB NVMe SSD for around $65 from Amazon – https://amzn.to/3lMhwHb or simply go to Crucial store, which offers the drive at the same price – click here.
