The P3’s declared maximum bandwidth is up to 3500MB/s read and up to 3000MB/s write. Higher capacity SSD will have better results in data writes, but it’s not so visible as most daily operations are related to data reading.
Since the P3 is made by Micron, then under the label, we will find Micron 3D NAND and Micron controller. Crucial decided to keep this SSD with M.2 PCIe 3.0 interface, which is just perfect for all who are using older motherboards or devices that won’t support PCIe 4.0. Even newer motherboards don’t have all M.2 sockets in the fastest standard, so if we wish to save some money and use more M.2 SSD, then Crucial P3 seems like a good option. Of course, the P3 works in all types of M.2 PCIe sockets, but to reach its declared bandwidth, we need at least a PCIe 3.0 x4 type of socket.
The SSD arrived with a 0 hours counter and a perfect condition. Crucial provides Storage Executive software, which offers us wide functionality. We can check SSD’s health but also update its firmware, run diagnostic tests or set additional options.
Above is a table with the SMART values from Crucial Storage Executive software, while below is about the same from CrystalDiskInfo. Everything looks perfect.
On the next page, we will look at the SSD itself and the package contents.
