Performance
The performance has been tested on the ASUS TUF A15 laptop with AMD Ryzen 7 4800H, 8-core processor, 64GB DDR4-3200, and Crucial P5 500GB M.2 SSD with installed Win10 Pro x64. This is a popular laptop, and all other components are readily available in stores.
Let’s begin as usual with the ATTO Disk Benchmark.
Crucial X6 results are slightly higher than expected in the ATTO benchmark. We could pass the declared 540MB/s what is already more than satisfying because this benchmark is known to show lower results than, for example, CrystalDiskMark.
CrystalDiskMark shows even better results, up to 568MB/s, which is about the maximum of the drive’s interface. Pretty nice even if we compare it to other SATA based external SSD. The most popular USB SSD are still working up to about 450MB/s while the X6 offers a mix of top speed for most popular computers with USB 3.0 or 3.1 Gen1 and a huge 2TB capacity.
Random operations bandwidth is also high. We can compare it to SATA 3 internal SSD, so it’s not bad for everything we may run on the SSD itself.
To check the X6 performance during longer work, we’ve used PCMark 10, which performs more advanced storage tests. In both tests that we picked so Quick System Drive Benchmark and Data Drive Benchmark, the X6 performs well. It’s maybe not the fastest portable SSD, but results are pretty respectable, especially using a USB port. We will present better results in the next review, which will cover the Crucial X8, so the faster version of a portable SSD.
In the end, one more popular benchmark – Anvil’s Storage Utilities. This benchmark is usually showing lower results than the ATTO or the CrystalDiskMark. In this case, we’ve almost reached maximum declared bandwidth what, of course, is a satisfying result.
The X6 SSD seems a perfect drive for all who need to carry a large amount of data. Due to high performance, it won’t take long to copy anything from or to the drive. The only limitation can be a USB port as we have to remember that the maximum performance can be reached only on USB 3.0 (old naming) or USB 3.1 Gen1 port, or faster. However, all modern computers are equipped with such so it won’t be a problem.
The X6 is clearly worth recommendation to all users, regardless if they need it for business or gaming.
