Performance
The performance has been tested on the AMD Ryzen platform that contains the Ryzen 9 7950X, 16-core processor, ASUS Crosshair X670E Gene motherboard, Crucial Pro OC 32GB DDR5-6000 memory kit, and Patriot Viper VP4300 Lite 2TB M.2 SSD with installed Win11 Pro x64. All tests were performed on the Crucial X9 2TB SSD.
Let’s begin as usual with the ATTO Disk Benchmark.
As usual, the results in ATTO Benchmark are lower than specified, but the X9 performs well. The maximum read bandwidth is around 995MB/s, while the maximum write bandwidth is around 957MB/s. Both results are about 20MB/s lower than we could achieve on the X9 Pro SSD.
In CrystalDiskMark, we can see much better results. The maximum linear read is 1039MB/s, and the write is 988MB/s. The read bandwidth is slightly lower than the maximum declared in the specifications, but it’s close enough to be accepted.
CrystalDiskMark also shows us high performance (for a USB SSD) in low queue 4K operations. It suggests that if we wish, we can work directly on our SSD without copying our files to the internal PC drive. It also gives us an idea that the X9 will be good as an additional SSD for a gaming console.
PCMark 10 results are also pretty good but slightly lower than those of the X9 Pro SSD. Every test gives us about 10% lower average bandwidth in this benchmark. On the other hand, it’s still more than many competitive portable SSDs have to offer.
The same story can be seen in the 3DMark Storage Benchmark. As long as the results are also respectable, the total score is about 100 points lower than that of the X9 Pro SSD.
In the end, the AIDA64 Disk Benchmark results in linear reads.
The average read is closer to what we could see in the ATTO benchmark. The different file sizes and test patterns result in a bit lower bandwidth, but it’s acceptable. Again, all the results are pretty good and consistent. We haven’t seen significant performance drops in extended write tests, so the X9 seems like a perfect portable SSD for backups.
The X9 performs well in all our tests and tasks not presented in this review. Since its performance isn’t much worse than that of the X9 Pro SSD, and the price is lower, the X9 is a very interesting option for those who need a reliable and fast SSD for less professional daily tasks.
