Crucial X9 2TB Portable SSD Review

Conclusion

The X9 is the cheapest of the latest Crucial portable SSDs. That doesn’t mean it’s slow, as our tests confirm slightly lower results in most benchmarks than those of the X9 Pro SSD.

The Crucial X9 Pro 2TB Portable SSD costs around $142.99 in the Amazon and Crucial online stores. The price will probably decrease some more, but it is reasonable for all we get. On the other hand, the X9 Pro costs only $17 more, while it has a more extended warranty, hardware encryption, better-guaranteed durability, and is a bit faster. We must ask ourselves if all those differences are worth the $17.

The X9 is a top-quality portable SSD designed for new devices. However, if we wish to use it with older devices with USB-A ports, we must buy a cable separately. The X9 is backward compatible with all computers with at least a standard USB port, but the performance will be limited unless we have a USB 3.2 x2 port.

Everything from the package to the SSD is well-designed, as in every Crucial product reviewed before. The SSD is covered by a 3-year warranty, which is not the longest but long enough for most users.

Final words:

The Crucial X9 portable SSD is yet another great product from Crucial. After the launch of their excellent X9 Pro and X10 Pro, we now have a cheaper version that may lack some features, but shouldn’t affect most users as the performance, durability, and compatibility are still on the highest level.
