Crucial X9 Pro 2TB Portable SSD Review

Performance

The performance has been tested on the AMD Ryzen platform that contains the Ryzen 9 7950X, 16-core processor, ASUS Crosshair X670E Gene motherboard, ADATA Lancer Mera Edition 32GB DDR5-7200@6200 memory kit, and Crucial P5 Plus 2TB M.2 SSD with installed Win11 Pro x64. All tests were performed on the Crucial X9 Pro 2TB SSD.

Let’s begin as usual with the ATTO Disk Benchmark.

Results in ATTO Benchmark are, as usual, lower than specified, but at the same time, are high for the X9 Pro SSD. The maximum read is 1020MB/s, and the maximum write is 903MB/s.

In CrystalDiskMark, we can see much better results. The maximum linear read is 1089MB/s, and the write is 922MB/s. The read bandwidth is higher than the declared, while the write is lower. As I mentioned earlier, read counts more, but of course, we wish to see over 1GB/s write bandwidth.

PCMark 10 results are fantastic for a portable SSD. We can’t directly compare them with the M.2 PCIe SSD, but it should be more than enough to work directly on it. Especially when we edit photos or videos, we can save some time when we don’t have to move all the content to another storage.

In the 3DMark Storage Benchmark, results are not so much lower than on the X10 Pro SSD. Of course, the score is not the highest, as portable SSDs are not designed for gaming, but the total score is still pretty respectable.

Anvil’s Storage Utilities is a rather old benchmark but is still popular. This benchmark usually shows lower results than the ATTO or the CrystalDiskMark.

In the end, the AIDA64 Disk Benchmark results in linear and random reads.

In every test, we could see over 1GB/s bandwidth. It’s maybe not as high as the X10 Pro results, but it was expected. Most computers aren’t equipped with faster USB ports than 10Gbps, so that it won’t make a difference for most users. Both new Crucial SSDs perform about the same in low queue random operations when the most significant difference is in sequential bandwidth. The short conclusion is that both are equally amazing for direct work on the portable SSD while moving large data will be faster on the X10 Pro SSD.

The X9 Pro is probably the best option for most users as, regardless of our computer, we will see great results, and the price is more affordable, which is a significant advantage.
