Product Photos and a Closer Look
The FURY Renegade package is a small box with a window on the back so we can check the SSD’s serial number. Kingston SSDs, without heat sinks, typically have a cardboard package with transparent blister protection.
Inside the package, we won’t find much. There is an SSD with a pre-installed heat sink and an Acronis license, so we can easily migrate our system to a new SSD. That’s about everything we may need to start using the FURY Renegade.
Kingston offers Acronis cloning software with all SSD. It’s a handy tool that may save us the long hours required for software reinstallation. The installation guide is under the link – click.
The FURY Renegade has a black PCB and a black heatsink with white branding signs. A label with all the numbers and safety certification logos is on the back.
The heat sink itself is made of aluminum. It’s pretty large but also about the same size as used by some other brands in their gaming series SSD. The only thing which I dislike is a warranty sticker on one of the screws. It protects the SSD from damage caused by the user and also protects the user from losing a warranty if there is anything wrong with the SSD on the production level (more from the mechanical way, that shouldn’t happen). On the other hand, it also won’t let us remove the heat sink and keep the warranty if we decide that we wish to install the SSD in a laptop or a motherboard with its own cooling solution. Again, think twice before the purchase, as there are both versions of the SSD available in stores.
The SSD looks excellent, and its design should match every gaming PC. It’s less important in the PS5 console as the SSD isn’t visible, but some users care about the fact that the product has a top design regardless if they see it or not.
On the next page, we will look closely at the test results.
