Kingston HyperX Savage 240GB SATA SSD Review

Performance

Performance has been measured on the latest Intel enthusiast grade platform whish is Haswell-E. Test rig is based on Intel Core i7 5820K processor and ASUS Rampage V Extreme motherboard with the latest available BIOS. Tested HyperX Savage SSD was connected as second drive to Intel SATA3 controller.

For tests we were using 64 bit version of Windows 8.1 Pro with the latest updates.

I can say that nothing unusual and all out readers should be able to achieve similar results.

ATTO Disk Benchmark

As usual we are starting from sequential bandwidth performance in ATTO Disk Benchmark. As we see HyperX Savage 240GB achieved great results and I think we could see even higher bandwidth if this drive had other connector than SATA3. SATA3 drives are usually limited to about 560MB/s where HyperX Savage is reaching interface limit in big part of this test.

Sequential results are simply great and are slightly higher than performance declared by Kingston. Maximum read was 563MB/s while maximum write 542MB/s.

CrystalDiskMark and AS SSD

CrystalDiskMark and AS SSD are performing similar tests so usually results are also similar. However in this case we see that results in CrystalDiskMark are better. Sequential bandwidth performance is much higher than that declared by Kingston and we can expect nearly 540MB/s read and 520MB/s write.

Sequential results in AS SSD are slightly below declared Kingston values but as always it can vary depends from operating system and some other factors.

On the other hand random bandwidth results are better in AS SSD. In this case we can compare them to all other fastest SATA SSD on the market with 4K random read about 34MB/s.

 Anvil’s Storage Utilities

Anvil’s tests are showing results about as high as these declared by Kingston but lower than we could see in previous benchmarks. Different results are probably caused by different test file sizes and it’s normal in this type of tests. General performance is maybe not as high as we were expecting but is still good.

PCMark8 – Storage Suite

PCMark8 is probably the most important test as it’s showing us performance in popular applications so actual experience without looking at the numbers.

Comparing to previous SSD reviews, total score in PCMark8 is really good – 4913. Average bandwidth doesn’t look impressive till we realize that most operations on our computers are random and sequential bandwidth is more important only while moving larger files.

I think that all users will be more than satisfied of HyperX Savage 240GB SSD performance. This drive was designed for gamers and enthusiasts but I think it’s a good option for all users.
