Lexar High Performance 32GB microSDHC UHS-I card (633x) Review

Performance

To check the performance I have used our usual benchmarks that are the most popular programs designed to measure storage performance.

As I already mentioned before, I used a desktop PC with USB 3.0 ports to test the real performance of Lexar card as mobile devices (with some exceptions like cameras) have usually limited bandwidth to USB 2.0 speed as manufacturers are using card readers linked to USB 2.0 ports.

New laptops and tablets should be able to work with these fast cards at full speed but as I said, this all depends on how the manufacturer decided to connect the SD card reader.

ATTO Disk Benchmark

The ATTO results are pretty good. I could not make 95MB/s but I think that the problem is more on the USB 3.0 controller side than the card itself. Lexar is declaring up to a 95MB/s maximum bandwidth while the maximum in ATTO was 87.3MB/s. At the same time, the write bandwidth reached a really nice 47MB/s which is a good result for any SD card.

CrystalDiskMark 3.0.3 x64

The CrystalDiskMark results are slightly better and after couple of runs we could see 90MB/s sequential read. What is worth to mention is that the random read results are high for a micro SD card. These results are better than any hard disk drive can offer and all that in such a little package.

The Random writes are never really all that high on flash cards but the results are still better than I have seen on many USB 3.0 flash drives.

Anvil’s Storage Utilities

Anvil’s tests are showing us a similar story as in the other programs. The maximum sequential read bandwidth is about 85MB/s while the writes are above 42MB/s. All of the benchmarks are using different test file sizes so the results are slightly different but repeatable.

We have not seen 95MB/s results but I do not think we have to worry about that as it is probably the USB 3.0 controller underperforming. Lexar is not guaranteeing a constant 95MB/s just because it is changing and depends on the controller used and the file sizes.

The general performance of the Lexar micro SD 633x card is really good and I do not think anyone who will decide to buy this card will complain. It is one of the fastest micro SD cards available on our market which we can see in our tests.
