The above info is all Lexar has for you, it is nice of Lexar to tell us exactly what the S73 series is 3x faster than. The lack of color choices for a given size may or may not be an issue, depending on your personal tastes. It doesn’t matter to me personally.
I got the 16GB version, hence the purple color.
Here’s what we get when it is plugged in:
See that? That’s beautiful. No junk software on it, no automated installers that slap a bunch of garbage onto your system. Pure unadulterated SPACE! Thank you, Lexar. As usual for storage, 16GB is calculated in the most generous way possible. This results in 14.9GB of real space. It’s a question of whether 1k is 1000 or 1024, whether 1MB is 1000 k or 1024 k, and so on. I blame marketing for everything, personally.
Due to the general shortage of interesting pictures to take of a flashdrive, the photo section has been combined with the Specs section.
Here, we have the packaging!
Nothing hugely informative. As the dotted Cut Here line notes, you aren’t getting this thing open without cutting. Don’t worry though, as long as you don’t hack the drive itself open there isn’t anything inside to mangle if the scissors run amuck.
Here we have the contents:
One passive anti-theft device, one RFID tag, and one purple flashdrive! They really don’t want this thing walking out of the store under its own power.
Let’s look at the drive itself more closely.
The slide has some very effective latches on it, if you don’t push down on the slide before trying to slide it, it goes nowhere. I like this.
Not much to see on the back.
When the drive is in operation there is a fairly faint LED under the slide:
It turns out that the drive snaps together, so I was able to take it apart and find out what is inside. It also turns out that I was wrong about it being Micron flash!
That’s a Phison controller and a Spectek flash chip. There is a second, identical, flash chip on the other side of the PCB. So much for my guesswork!
Let’s see how this thing performs. On the next page.
