Conclusion and Verdict
Well as far as the performance, the drive is right where it should be as advertised speeds go. My only hang up is I can still get a drive that reaches 3500 MB/s for a slightly better price. Now that is no knock on this drive at it is just that the “said competitor” is so well priced its hard to turn down. To compete with that the price of this drive has to be a little more enticing in my opinion. Other than that one downside this drive is a solid performer as you can saw on the las page. The speeds are right there, as advertised. The tests where run back to back so the consistency is great. The temps where also well with in operating specs as the highest I hit was 61 degrees Celsius. Another thing is great about a M.2 drive is the ease of installation. If you are looking to upgrade you SSD or finally rid your system of the old spinner. Then M.2 is the way to go. No wires or power plugs. That right there has me sold form the get go! Almost as good as a wireless device! No complaints from this drive. The speeds and the capacity is spot on during the testing!
As of right now a lot of people I talk to, only see the SSD’s price as affordable when using them as a boot drive. When I can buy and 1TB SSD for around a hundred dollars that’s when I will start using one as a gaming drive. Until then I will tolerate the grinding and whining on my old HHD.
The Lexar NM610 M.2 2280 500GB can be found at Amazon as well as various other e-tailers for the price around $159.99 USD. I take that back at the time of this review the price is currently $115.08 on Amazon. I am not sure how long this will last so hurry up and go grab on while you can. At that price I you can easily justify this drive over the “said competitor”!
