Lexar NM710 1TB PCIe Gen4x4 M.2 SSD Review

Test Bench

For our tests, we used our Test Rig which consists of a Gigabyte Z790 Aorus Pro X motherboard, along with an Intel Core i9-13900K, a ASRock Radeon RX 7900 XTX graphics card, and 32GB Patriot Viper Gaming Venom DDR5-7200 memory kit.

AIDA64 Disk Information

As you can see from AIDA64 disk information, the Lexar NM710 supports NVMe 1.4,  PCIE 4.0 Gen4x4. It shows a total formatted capacity of 953,869MB, which is about right for a 1TB drive when you take it in to consideration.

It doesn’t show the name of the SSD controller, but we know it uses the MAP1602A from Maxiotech, which is one of the new generation of DRAM-Less SSD controllers.

CrystalDiskMark

CrystalDiskMark is a disk benchmark software. It measure sequential reads/writes speed, measure random 512KB, 4KB, 4KB (Queue Depth=32) reads/writes speed, select test data (Random, 0Fill, 1Fill), provide theme support and Multi-Language support.

During our CrystalDiskMark 4GB test we managed to get a Read speed of 5,028 MB/sec with Write speeds of 4,456 MB/sec. For the 32GB test, we got a fast read sepeed of 5,079 MB/sec and write speed of 4,239 MB/Sec. It peforms as advertised, so no complaints here.

ATTO Disk Benchmark

ATTO has created a widely-accepted Disk Benchmark freeware software to help measure storage system performance. As one of the top tools utilized in the industry, Disk Benchmark identifies performance in hard drives, solid state drives, RAID arrays as well as the host connection to attached storage.

Anvil Storage

Anvil’s Storage Utilities is a powerful tool that was designed in order to provide you with a simple means of assessing the read and writer performance of your Solid State Drive or Hard Disk Drive.

In our Anvil tests, we managed to get a 4K QTD16 Read IOPS score of 223,413.69 While 4K QTD16 write IOPS score was at 476,990.77, which is pretty good.

Load Temps

Full load temperatures reached a high 47 degree Celsius, which is much lower than I expected. I’m guessing the 12nm DRAM-Less SSD controller, coupled with the lower read/write speed has something to do with it.

PCMark 10 – Full System Drive Benchmark

The Full System Drive benchmark uses a wide-ranging set of real-world traces from popular applications and common tasks to fully test the performance of the fastest modern drives.

This benchmark writes 204 GB of data to the drive over the duration of the test. This data is deleted when the test ends.

To run this test, you need a minimum of 80 GB of free space on the drive, 8 GB of RAM, and a quad-core CPU.

PassMark 9

Fast, easy to use, PC speed testing and benchmarking. PassMark PerformanceTest allows you to objectively benchmark a PC using a variety of different speed tests and compare the results to other computers.
