Verdict and Conclusion
This is the one of only a handful of M.2 SSDs we’ve tested, which uses the DRAM-Less SSD controller from Maxiotech. And I can see many more manufacturers using this type of DRAM-Less SSD controller in the future, as it offers affordability without compromising on performance. The Lexar NM710 is pretty fast, reliable and performs quite well in all of our benchmarks. During our Crystalmark 32GB tests, it produced a Read speed of 5,028 MB/sec and Write speeds of 4,456 MB/sec. It performs as advertised so I’m more than happy with its performance.
The Lexar NM710 doesn’t come with any heatsinks or heatshield, and the reason for this is because the Maxiotech DRAM-Less SSD controller uses 12nm technology, meaning it’s more power efficient and thus produces less heat. Full load temperatures reached a high of only 47 degree Celsius, which is much lower than I expected. Still, I do recommend using the included M.2 heatsink that comes with your motherboard.
For the NM710, Lexar doesn’t mention compatibility with the PS5, if that’s the case you might want to check out the NM790 which is officially compatible with the PS5. The NM710 is available in capacities of 512GB, 1TB and 2TB. You can buy the Lexar NM710 1TB PCIe Gen4x4 M.2 SSD for around USD $63 from Amazon – https://amzn.to/3P5pECa
Final Thoughts
It’s crazy how afforable the Lexar NM710 really is. With a read speed of 5,000Mb/sec and a write speed of 4,500Mb/sec, and a capacity of 1TB, it’s the perfect upgrade for any PC or laptop, plus it comes with a 5-year warranty. What more do you want for $65!
